Lake Hickory is one the largest freshwater sand bottom lakes in North Carolina. The crystal clear Blue Ridge Mountain streams and the beautiful Catawba River flow into the lake year-round.  The lake was named after the City of Hickory and runs along its northern edge. It covers almost 4,223 acres (17.09 km2) with 105 miles (169 km) of shoreline. Lake Hickory is perfect for swimming, water skiing, tube, boat or enjoy some of the finest fishing. The lake is home to many different species of fish, including striped bass, largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, lake perch, bluegill, sunfish, and a variety of catfish.

Lake Hickory's perfect location is the gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Only one hour from Charlotte, one hour from Asheville (home of the Biltmore Estate!), 45 minutes from Boone and Blowing Rock, and about 3 1/2 hours from the coast. Come see the most beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain views from the lake!
